After six years with Excel Esports, Co-Founder Joel Holmes-Darby will be departing the London-based esports organization. The company announced the departure, with Holmes-Darby confirming the departure via social media.
“After an exciting journey, I confirm my departure from Excel Esports. I am very proud of everything we have accomplished at Excel during the last six years. Starting a company with my brother Kieran and watching it grow from a bedroom hobby to a multi-million-pound organization is an experience I feel lucky and privileged to have lived through,” said Holmes-Darby in a statement. “Along the way I have made many great friends and worked with some incredible people, and there are many milestones and achievements I am deeply proud of. The trajectory of the brand is extremely positive and I look forward to seeing how things progress and unfold over the coming years. In the meantime, I will be continuing to support everyone at Excel Esports as they strive to achieve the highly ambitious goals we have set for the company. I am proactively seeking new opportunities for the future and am excited for whatever the next challenge may be.“
Last January, Holmes-Darby transitioned to the role of chief people officer when it was announced that Wouter Sleijffers, former CEO of Fnatic would be brought on as CEO and Robin McCammon would be brought on as CCO.
“Excel has gone through an incredible journey over the last six years and so much has been achieved,” Sleijffers said. “We would not be where we are now without Joel’s leadership. As we embark on the next phase of Excel’s growth, we want to thank Joel for his continued support. We wish him all the best for the future.”
As of this writing, there are no details as to why Holmes-Darby is leaving Excel, but he has said he is looking for other opportunities.
